Run your own FTP Server!
Do you have broadband
internet access?
Have a couple or more gigs
of free hard drive space?
Want to distribute the music
we all love to our fellow fans (and
receive music in return)?
Run your own FTP
server! It's easy and free!!
Even though cable/DSL upload
bandwidth isn't stellar, it's enough to host a small FTP server. Every day, fans pull 2.5 GB of SHN'd music from the two logins on my FTP
server – the equivalent of about 6 audio CDs.
The server runs mostly 24/7, so in a single week fans download roughly 40 audio CDs!! (Can you say perpetual-B+P?)
Once you learn about SHN at ETree, here’s how simple it is to run your own
FTP server…
1. Sign up for a No-IP
account.
2. Find out if the
hostname you want is available.
3. Add the hostname to
your No-IP account.
4. Download and install
No-IP’s Dynamic Update Client (DUC).
7. Download and
install GuildFTP.
8. Run and configure GuildFTP.
8.2. Configure System
options.
8.3. Add groups.
8.4. Set up group paths.
8.5. Add users to groups.
8.6. Set user options.
8.7. Set up anonymous user
path.
8.8. Set up a welcome message.
